Update on our Mission Support to Ethiopia

Hi everyone. This is a portion of an email received by Karolyn Lewis from True Love Children's Center.  As you may already know, Lee and Karolyn Lewis' youngest son is from there.  At River of Life, we collected $4000 for to assist them in bringing their operation 'up to code':

"...We have purchased every thing we needed by the money you sent us. Our center was also evaluated by concerned line bureaus and we have received the letter of ''continue the work". Thank the Lord for everything he has done for us by using you and your Church Community. Our thanks is great for you and your dad (ed.note - Pastor Henry is Karolyn's dad). Here I have attached all photos of the things we purchased.
Please, pass it to all our friends who put their hands in to TLCC and pass our greetings to all...

Your brother Messele"

News from Peru

Dear Friends and Family, July 27, 2011

Lew and I wanted to thank all of you for your outpouring of love and support. Your generosity has overwhelmed us and we are so very grateful. We wanted you all to know we are healing well (I am fully recovered) and Lew’s leg, though still infected, is on the mend.

We also would like to tell you of the great progress made on the new orphanage being constructed in Characato by Jose and Gloria Ingalls, the parents of the orphanage in Pachacutec. The team from Northside Community Church in Eufala, AL just left this past Friday afternoon after a grueling week of construction. Thank you so much, Northside!

Left to right these are before, during and after pictures of the garden projects both inside and outside the building. They also handed out tracts, visited 2 orphanages, the feeding center, and Pastor Rod preached twice on Sunday. In addition they loved on us, prayed for and blessed us. Our granddaughter Rachel and Steve Glenn also helped and are therefore included in the team photo. Steve Glenn came from Joplin, MO where his parents are members of the same church my brother, Mark Liston, attended for several years. Steve came at a time when we needed him most and helped us through our time of crisis. We know the Lord sent him to help us get through this difficult time. Thank you, Steve.

God bless you all for all you have done for us and especially for your prayers which we know are daily keeping us safe. God doesn’t move without the prayers of His people going beforehand. Thank you so much and we love you.

Latest News From Lew and Mariesa in Peru

Dear Friends and Family,

Please accept our apologies for the tardiness of this thank you letter. I had written it and was ready to hit the send button when my computer crashed, yet again. It has taken me this long to get it up and running, and to reformulate the letter to reflect more of what has happened since then. All I can say just now is WOW! The Lord is opening new doors for us at such a rapid rate that we can hardly keep up with all He is giving us to do. Praise the Lord, we will soon have help. Darrell and Donnia Alexander will be here to help us by the time we send out our next update.

Above is a picture of a portion of the road we rode on to a small town in the Amazon jungle of Peru. I (Mariesa) went with Medical Missions International staff members through the town of Juliaca as far as possible before we were told a bridge had been washed away and that road was impassible. We had to retrace our drive and take another, mostly unpaved road. This was truly an adventure as we had to cross many rivers without the help of bridges, wait for avalanches to be cleared away before we could continue, and go without sleep (there were no motels) and food (there were no restaurants). We drove for 22 hours on these back roads. When we finally arrived at our destination it was still raining. I called Lew to let him know we had finally arrived safely and I guess I must have sounded pretty tired because he told me to fly back home instead of coming on the van. I was happy.

The day after I returned, Lew took off with a group of other missionaries to teach some pastors at a Bible College in Tacna for a week. We nearly passed each other going and coming. At least we had one day together again before he had to leave. I had plenty to do while he was gone, preparing devotionals to present at the Threads of Hope retreat in Lima where I will be going this Sunday for nearly two weeks. I will return on Lew’s birthday, March 9th. I hope he thinks that is a good birthday present (smile). I will be returning with a young couple, Kathryn and Jason Vicars, who were here with us last year for awhile. They are such a delight, and hard workers. They will be helping with construction at the new orphanage, ministering at the feeding center, and other things as well.

Thank you all so very much for your prayer support as well as your financial support. God bless you for all you do for him in relation to missions. We love and appreciate you so much.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We can hardly believe it is already 2011! How fast the time flies. Before we know it, our Lord will return! We want to encourage each of you to make it your goal this year to win as many souls for the Lord’s Kingdom as possible. With this goal in mind we will be doing much more street evangelism here in Peru. We have already scheduled two teams to come help with evangelism and the Bible College students will make a trip to evangelize some pueblos near the coast in March. We must present the Gospel message far and wide this year.

Thank each of you for your support. Your prayers are changing lives, and of course, without the financial support we couldn’t stay here. You are such a blessing. Thank you for giving to God’s work in Peru

In March, we will begin the pastor meetings again. These meetings are so important because through these monthly meetings we can reach most of the pastors in town. They have fellowship as well as a time for training, worship and prayer. We desperately need help with this project. Please consider sponsoring one of the 100 pastors for $5 a month. This covers the expenses involved in the meetings. For the price of one meal at McDonalds, you can help a pastor each month. If you are interested in sponsoring one or more pastors, please contact us by email or phone at (davisinperu@yahoo.com or 727-216-9617).

We had such a wonderful Christmas again this year with the children from Casa Hogar El Amor de Dios orphanage here at the mission house. Once again they decorated the house, sang Christmas carols and Happy Birthday to Jesus, watched fireworks from our roof, ate a huge turkey dinner, birthday cake, opened presents and had a breakfast the following morning of bacon and pancakes we (Lew and Mariesa) cooked for them. We all had such a happy time. The children and José and Gloria would all like to thank those of you who helped make this Christmas one they will never forget. Sharing the love of Jesus with these precious ones who can now feel, some of them for the first time in their lives, safe and free from hunger brings a joy like nothing else can.

God bless you for helping to get them off the street, out of harm’s way, and into a Christian home with people who love them.

In His most perfect love,

Lew and Mariesa Davis

What a whirlwind of a time we had in the United States. Lew and I both agree it was the best trip back we have ever had in many different ways. We spoke in several new churches, made many more wonderful friends and received promises of teams coming to help in 2011. We look forward to seeing you all then. As many of you know, we are requesting prayer for Jose Ingalls, the father of the orphanage with whom we work very closely. His health is bad and the doctors are having a hard time discovering the problem. Also, his wife, Gloria, lost her father just the week before this mysterious illness attacked him. Please keep them and the 24 children in their orphanage in your prayers. We have a team coming from Georgia in November to help complete the 3rd orphanage and we would love to see Jose totally healed before they arrive. That is our prayer. Please pray with us for his healing.

We also need a helper at the Bible College for translating and administrative work as we lost both of our helpers while we were back in the United States, so please be in prayer with us for trustworthy, dedicated people to help us. The wonderful lady Elisabeth who has been so faithful in helping us has other obligations until next year and we were so sad to hear of her need to leave, but hopefully she will return next year.

“Thank you” seems inadequate to express our gratitude for all of your hospitality, encouragement and support while we were back in the U.S. We enjoyed our time with all of you and are now back in the saddle and going 90 to nothing to prepare for the work we have going on for the next few months. Please keep us in your prayers, and know that you are loved and appreciated.

For more information you can visit Mariesa on Facebook or visit our new blogging site www.mvimi2.wordpress.com. Once again, thank you so much. We are praying that God will bless you.

In the service of the King,

Lew and Mariesa
